Rolling over from back to front

This definitely isn't her most graceful display of rolling over!

First time eating cereal

Brooke had a good time trying out cereal for the first time.

Here I am giving Brooke her first few bites and she definitely has no idea what to do with a spoon. She kept trying to lick it. Check out her fluffy mohawk from her helmet . . . too cute!

Here is her aunt Mei Mei (pronounced "May May" a/k/a Amaris) shoveling it in after she starts to get the hang of it. She was so funny because she was leaning forward in her bouncy and trying to grab the bowl. I guess she likes it.

My little side sleeper

Brooke loves to sleep on her side now. It is awfully cute. I'll put her in bed and she'll roll to her side and snuggle her blankie and she'll be out. She also rolled over from her back to her front for the first time yesterday. Audrey said she did it three times!

Psychic Connection

Somehow the months of running while pregnant must have developed a psychic connection between Brooke and my running buddy, Robin. We went for a run the other day and when Robin was looking at Brooke she said "oh my gosh . . . I had a dream about Brooke last night." I then asked her what her dream was about and Robin said "in my dream Brooke was able to talk to me and she told me that her helmet itches!" I thought this was hilarious because I had seen Brooke make scratching motions a few times on the outside of her helmet. But now, anytime that helmet comes off, Brooke's arm shoots up to scratch her head. Too bad my daughter doesn't talk to me in my dreams!

A Glorious Doctor's Visit

This picture was taken of Brooke when she was a week old. A lot can happen in a week. A week before it was just Ryan and I and then a week later we had this:

So Brooke had an appointment with her helmet doctor today. So she has had the helmet for a week. We got in there and he took off her helmet and got his little measuring tape and measured her head. He turned to his sheet to write the measurement and he said "wait a minute, that can't be right. I better measure it again!" I started to panic thinking that something must be going terribly wrong. He came back and remeasured his head and looked back to his sheet and his eyes got big and he said "WOW"! I quickly asked, "is that a good wow or a bad wow!" He said she has had 5 mm of growth. Wanting to have it cleared spelled out for me, I asked again, "is that a good thing or a bad thing?" He said, "that is a really good thing!" He explained that her head had 12 mm of asymmetry when we started and she is now down to 7 mm! PRAISE GOD! I was astounded since it's only been a week since she got the helmet and the first few days she didn't wear it much at all (2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours . . .).

He also said you want your head ratio (there is some fancy techincal term for the statistic that I don't remember) should be around 80% with your head being longer front to back than from side to side and Brooke started out at 93% and is now down to 87%. The front right side of her forehead had protruded some before and he said it looks like that is gone, too! What a week! I told him that Brooke would get the world record for the shortest length of time having to wear a helmet and he laughed. He told me to not get my hopes up too much because the head ratio percentage can take a long time to repair itself. But I'm not going to let him trample my hopes! God's done a lot of work in one week, who is to say that he won't do even more work next week! I was all pumped up for a doctor's visit next week but he said he didn't need to see us back until 3 weeks.

So I wanted to say thank you to all the people who have been praying for us! God has definitely worked wonders with helping us easily adjust to the helmet and to helping repair her head. He has definitely done a work in my heart when it didn't bother me at all tonight when a lady at Walmart said, "well look at your little boy with his racing helmet on!" It was ironic because almost every aisle I turned down had a girl pushing a baby in a pumpkin seat in their cart and I had Brooke strapped on me in a front pack carrier (which attracts more attention anyway) and all of the people were staring at me (some discretely and some not so discretely) and I was proud to show her off because she is so special and precious! I thought how lucky I am that my baby wasn't like all of the others!

First night in the helmet

Brooke did great her first night in the helmet. She was all smiles as I was getting her dressed for the day. Now she's wearing the helmet 23 hours a day.

Last Hooray Before Helmet

This was Brooke's final evening of helmet-free wear (note her helmet hair in the first 2 pics) until it's ready to come off. She wore the helmet for 8 hours during the day and she gets it off until bedtime where it goes on and will be on for 23 hours a day. Hopefully she will sleep okay in it.

This was Brooke's first time being strapped in the running stroller without being in her pumpkin seat. She was pretty darn cute. We just walked around the neighborhood. I'm not supposed to run with her strapped in this way until she's 6 months old, so just a few weeks to go. It won't be as fun for me though because when she is in the pumpkin seat she is facing me so I get to see her. But I'm sure she'd rather look at the scenery than her sweaty mom!

New Hair Style

There have been numerous classic hair styles that have been around for ages . . . such as bed head - the tossled mess when a person gets out of bed. Then there is also hat head with the tell-tale matted down ring around a person's head. Now . . . introducing . . . helmet head . . . which is characterized by a ring of matted-down, sweaty hair around the edge of the head with fluffy hair sticking straight up at the top! What can I say, my daughter is a stylist pioneer!

Such Blessings

God has made it much easier on me than I was expecting today because Brooke has had a wonderful attitude all day which has made me feel much better about the whole thing.

Brooke only had to wear the helmet for 3 hours today (1 hour on, 1 off, 1 on, 1 off, then 1 on). Tomorrow it will be for 6 hours and it steps up until on the 7th day she'll be wearing it for 23 hours. She is such a trooper and is such a wonderful gift from God!

Helmet

Waiting for the helmet to be put on!

Mommy loves those chubby cheeks!

A few tears were shed by both mom and baby!

D Day - Morning Before Helmet

Brooke is her normal happy self this morning. Hopefully getting a helmet doesn't change her sweet disposition.

Found Her Feet

Brooke just loves to grab her feet now. It's a challenge when changing her diaper because she loves to grab for her toes and hangs on to them. She'll often roll to one side or the other while holding them and it is so precious!

Quite a talker

Brooke is the light of our lives and she's pretty entertaining, too!
